Similarly, the project addresses GEF's Strategic Objectives of Land Degradation & Biodiversity. Through its focus on rehabilitation of forest landscapes, the project will also contribute to GEF’s crosscutting program on Sustainable Forest Management.

The duration of the project is for 5 years (2011-2016& has been designed to implement in two target sites of Sarayan and Rigan with the total area of 462068 ha.Konarbai sub watershed of AbBarik watershed in Rigan, Kerman and Hamboo sub-watershed of Se Qaleh watershed in Sarayan, South Khorasan province with the total area of 298500 & 163568 ha. which are representative of typical arid and semi-arid regions of Iran have been selected as project pilot sites to demonstrate effective participatory and integrated sustainable land and forest management (SLFM) practices.
