Visit of Women Micro Fund of Mohammad Abad Village, Qaen to RFLDL Project Pilot Site of Sarayan      

In collaboration with village committees of Sarayan pilot site, a project site visit for a group of women micro fund of Mohammad Abad village of Qaen, a micro fund depended to Abrar charity association (sustainable development plan of Mohammad Abad village of Qaen with emphasis on job generation and entrepreneurship) was organized on 22 Jan. 2015 following the request on behalf of this fund.

To be familiar with the work areas of village resources management and development committees and community development funds established within Sarayan site, the visitors attended in a meeting of women sub-committee of Se Qaleh. Visit to some of the livelihood activities established with the support of village funds in Se Qaleh, Zangooi and Bostaq and some of village development initiatives carried out in close collaboration with village committees and local communities were the other activities done in this visit.  

Among the livelihood activities established within target areas of the project, the visitors visited tailoring workroom that created employment opportunity for 8 individuals, cloth weaving and the cloth shop in           Se Qaleh, and a group of livelihood and development activities done in Zangooi including cultivation of mushroom, production of vermi compost, cookie baking, homemade bakery, multipurpose medicinal herb farming along with implementation of tape irrigation system as well as establishment of a road to the village.

At the end of this visit, the visitors had a visit to bostaq village to be familiar with the mechanism of accounting in the village funds through visiting to the accounting software. Visit to the stationery shop established jointly by village committee and district Social Welfare Office of Sarayan for one of the members of the fund, Miss Asian, so that she could supply the living expenses of her family was the last activities visited by the local women of this fund. 


Women micro fund of Mohammad Abad village of Qaen, thanked the village committees of Sarayan site for organizing this visit and creating the opportunity for sharing the experiences and being aware of successful samples in the area of improving the livelihood status of local communities and requested for programming another visit for the rest of their fund's members to the project activities.

RFLDLP Introduction

Rehabilitation of Forest Landscapes and Degraded Land Project (RFLDLP) is a collaborative effort of Forest, Rangeland and Watershed Management Organization of the Government of Islamic Republic of Iran/ (IRI/ FRWO), Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to address the main threats to land and forest resources in arid and semi-arid areas of IRI. The Project has national and international significance as it helps government and GEF to fulfill their strategic objectives. The project helps government to fulfill its constitutional obligations and international environmental commitments as well as contributes to achieve some of the key development objectives such as the sustainable management of dry land natural resources and improving livelihood conditions of the people living in arid and semi-arid areas. Similarly, the project addresses GEF's Strategic Objectives of Land Degradation & Biodiversity. Through its focus on rehabilitation of forest landscapes, the project will also contribute to GEF’s crosscutting program on Sustainable Forest Management.

The duration of the project is for 5 years (2011-2016& has been designed to implement in two target sites of Sarayan and Rigan with the total area of 462068 ha.Konarbai sub watershed of AbBarik watershed in Rigan, Kerman and Hamboo sub-watershed of Se Qaleh watershed in Sarayan, South Khorasan province with the total area of 298500 & 163568 ha. which are representative of typical arid and semi-arid regions of Iran have been selected as project pilot sites to demonstrate effective participatory and integrated sustainable land and forest management (SLFM) practices.

The primary stakeholders and immediate target beneficiaries of the project are the local people and communities living in the project watersheds and the local and provincial level governments. They will benefit from increased capacity to plan, implement and evaluate participatory integrated SLFM initiatives at village and watershed levels.  Local stakeholders, including both women and men, who will be principal participants in the planning and execution of the various activities, bring with them their traditional, time tested and practical suggestions to address the challenges of land degradation, deforestation and loss of biodiversity.

The project aims to restore and enhance biodiversity and the capacity of degraded forest landscapes and lands to deliver essential ecosystem goods and services for sustainable livelihoods, food security and combating desertification by removing barriers to participatory integrated SLFM initiatives at watershed level in Rigan and Sarayanpilot sites.
